Good review, I'm glad I'm not the only one to see the Johnny Mnemonic / Matrix similarities. Should you feel especially masochistic I'd suggest Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief – such a carbon copy of Harry Potter you won't believe it. I watched – I'm not sure I believe it.

Wow.. I will admit.. I am a fan of the short story and this.. wasn't the short story but I still loved it. Though the freakin satellite looked like soda bottle with a salad bowl attached to it. The only thing the movie lacked was the killing floor from the short story…. and Jonesy's heroin fix. Cause as well all know cybern etically enhanced cetaceans + addiction to illicit street drugs = cinema gold.

Hmm, 16 or so years? Sounds like time for a big Hollywood remake 😛

I was mostly ignoring this stuff when it came up on my reader (from the IdleState feed), but I’m glad I finally checked out your reviews. Pretty entertaining. If I were a HUGE A-HOLE, I might suggest Robot Jox. The movie is notable to me, because the dumbasses fight giant robots made of explodium “instead of war”, people show up to watch from the bleachers despite the eminent risk of being flamethrowered, I’m prettysure the badguy’s robot had a chainsaw IN ITS CROTCH… and yet when they blast off into space… there’s a moment when your brain will just stop from the shock. And not the shock that rockem-socket robots have space capability for no reason.

So, er, Gibson created Cyberpunk? My first thought on hearing that was that you were being glib and wrong; didn’t John Brunner do lots of that back before the ’70s? …Well it’s been a while, and maybe I’m rusty on my golden age sci-fi. While I remember cyberpunk books and stories by Brunner (the ‘nine line’), I should check my facts. So I checked Wikipedia’s entry for Brunner and, on a whim, for Cyberpunk.

Gibson neither coined the term nor wrote the first stories qualifying as it. It’s unclear whether he wrote the first stories that others used the term for.

Um, by calling yourself “Sci-Fi d00d” you’re assuming the role of an expert who does fact-checking. It’s a small thing, but maybe you could say something like “Gibson *popularized* cyberpunk.”

Please fact check. This isn’t the only time or the only video. Keep a notebook handy, jot down your assertions, and do a little basic research. You’ll learn fun sciency stuff from Wikipedia to boot!
