I applaud you Sir for enduring the most horrible piece of garbage unleashed upon the American TV viewing audience simply to review it for our consumption. I hope the counseling you are receiving from actually watching it is helping. Good luck with the blog.

I tried watching it the first time i heard of it (it was mentioned on XKCD). I honestly turned it off right away, durring the wookie conversations.

I made it to the cooking scene.. now going to scrub my eyes with some undiluted bleach. Ty for even informing that they at one time tried to do this and why Lucas didn't sue for Image damages is beyond me. This never happened.

I remember watching it as a kid when it first came out. I saw this before I saw Star Wars in the theater. I didn't see the whole thing, and it wasn't what I remember. Oh wait I didn't remember it until I saw the review. Thanks for bring back a part of my childhood that I thought I killed for good. Remind me to take you off my Christmas Card list.

Oh those halcyon days. Folks really need to understand the world this horrible horrible document hails from.1978 was the year after the first Star Wars movie was released. It was also the year after the VHS format first hit the US. This means prior to, and for a number of years after, most homes didn't have ANY means of recording or watching anything on their televisions other than what was being broadcast at the moment. And in that moment, shy of having cable which only offered you a dozen or so channels (most of which were available before via antenna if you tuned the channel in like a radio station), most markets only offered you the big 3 (ABC, CBS, and NBC), one or two local channels whose programming consisted of old reruns of shows long off the air and some incredibly low budget local programming, and maybe a local PBS station. Sit and cogitate on that for a moment. Not only didn't you get to choose what you watched at any given time, what WAS available was whatever happened to be on at the moment. No videos/dvds, no movie channels, no on-demand, no Netflix, no YouTube, no Hulu, no videos on your computer because oh yeah, this was also the year after the first personal computers hit the market, and they had less graphical abilities than the worst ATM you've ever waited for to dial-up to get your balance. The P2P network back then was taking a portable cassette recorder over to a friend's house, sitting it next to a speaker, and hoping no one coughed while you made a recording of one of their albums. As for video gaming…'78 was also the year Space Invaders hit the arcades. Prior to that, you were pinballing or playing Pong.So, the kids getting to see this back in '78 were EAGER to see it, simply because we were starved for ANYTHING sci fi at the time. As to the structure and material involved, this was pretty much par for the course for the time. There were lots of variety shows in those days, and this was how they usually went… with fewer wookies and MORE Bea Arthur singing.So yeah… ghastly and inexcusable, but for it's time it was a lifeline while waiting for "Empire" to come out. You may think it sounds like a barren wasteland, activitywise , but lets see…without internet and 500 channels and game consoles to suck up time and energy, what WOULD a normally hormonal 15 year old boy with nothing else to do be doing in the 70's, the decade after the sexual revolution? In coastal California? With pot everywhere, and tube tops not considered skanky yet, being worn by 15 year old girls…and AIDS not even on the radar yetNope..can't really remember being all that bored… ya know, the Star Wars Holiday Special was pretty awesome now that I come to think about it…
